Momentos 11.19.13

Today's Momentos feature the students in 6-C and the Tenth Age chicos. The students in 6-C received their Spanish names today. We talked about the fact that their names are their names no matter where they are in the world. It does not change just because they go to another country. I wish that I had filmed that discussion. It was quite funny! The students received names that were either a translation of their English name or were as close as we can get. There are very few names with Z and W's are not common in Spanish. If I cannot find a name with the same beginning sound or need something different, I often use a student's middle name. Each student in 6-C will bring home a sheet on which they may continue to practice writing their Spanish names. At the bottom of that sheet, there is a pronunciation guide. Please practice your child's Spanish name with them at home.

The Tenth Age chicos started working on their country projects today. Doing research can be hard to learn in the beginning. We talked about needing to use the resources that Mrs. Stone and I set aside for them. We also talked about the importance of reading through the information presented carefully so that they can find the information they seek. They also learned that not all of the information that they need to find can be found from one source. They are learning to get the information that they need from the first source before moving on to the next.
