Today's Momentos are summaries of what each grade level has been doing and a sneak peek at what is coming up soon.
Sixth Age - The students are finishing up the colors unit by completing a "Little Book of Colors." The colors are in order of Los colores by Susy Dorn. This will help them to remember as they sing. We will continue to reinforce the colors by playing games such as, ¿Dónde está (color)? - Where is (color)? in the classroom, ¿Qué es (color)? - What is (color)? - Name items that are a certain color, and Loto en cuatro - A four square quick bingo game. One Sixth Age class has already received their Spanish names. The rest will be getting them as they finish the color unit. After they receive their Spanish names, we will begin the numbers 0-10 unit.
Eighth Age - The students enjoyed nearly two months of culture! They worked on a project for Hispanic Heritage Month and they learned about and created items related to Día de los Muertos. While learning about the culture of Spanish-speaking countries is very important, it is time for us to get back to learning Spanish. The students are beginning the school supplies unit. They will learn how to talk about school supplies by expressing what someone has, needs, and buys. The Symtalk method, which uses a series of picture cards to create sentences, has been a wonderful way to get the students to speak in Spanish without translating.
Ninth Age - The students just completed the unit about describing people around them. They completed a folder paper in which they described two family members, a friend, and a teacher. Do not worry! They were very kind to all of us in their descriptions. The unit focuses on the agreement skill. The students must remember to change the adjective to agree with the person that they are describing. They also had to remember good sentence structure and how to use commas. They have already begun the unit to describe objects by size, color, and condition and will continue to do so over the next few weeks. They are also using school supplies.
Tenth Age - The chicas are finishing up their country projects. I have heard the girls recording their information in iMovie and I cannot wait to see the finished products. As they finish, they will do a mini in class research project on a famous Latino using the Pearltrees app. After they complete the country projects, we will have a viewing party and then put the finished products on my blog. The chicos have worked on additional biographical questions over the last few weeks and did a very good job! They can describe themselves, talk about whether or not they have siblings, talk about what pets they have, if any, and talk about their best friends. Next week, the chicos will officially start the country report research. They received their marching orders today and are eager to begin.
