This blog is a great way to start a conversation with your child about what we are doing in Spanish. Below on the right, you will find links to posts about what we are doing in each of the classes. The more you encourage your child to use Spanish at home, the more he or she will feel comfortable using the language in any situation.

Collaborative Lesson - 6-C and Sra. Menefee's Fifth Grade Spanish Class
Yesterday, 6-C has some special visitors from the middle school. One of Sra. Menefee's fifth grade Spanish classes came over to work with my 6-C Spanish class. The fifth grade students were my first Sixth Age class at Calvert! I taught them the color song, Los colores by Susy Dorn, five years ago and they STILL love to sing it. We started off the class greeting each other. 6-C sang their greeting songs and some of the fifth graders sang along. Then, they all sang Los colores together (see the video below). Next, the fifth grade buddies played games to reinforce the color words that the students in 6-C have been learning. After a playing for a bit, the students in 6-C told the fifth grade students about the key features of Spanish artist Joan Miró's work. Together, they completed a color by numbers version of Miró's People and Dog in the Sun. What a fun class! Enjoy the video and slide shows below.
