Currently in Pilot
In the Pilot classes, we are learning the numbers from one to ten. The students are counting, forwards and backwards, and telling me which number is missing from the number line in Spanish, of course! We also learned the finger play, "Diez monitos". One of my favorite books is, "Cinco Monitos Brincando en la Cama" or "Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed". We have read this book several times because the students enjoy it too. They like saying with me, "¡Qué ya no brinquen en la cama los monitos!". ("No more monkeys jumping on the bed!"). A brief video of the Cinco Monitos finger play is below. Please have your son or daughter practice it with you.

7-2 - El Día de los Muertos
Today, November 2nd, is Día de los Muertos or the Day of the Dead in many Latin American countries and parts of the United States. The day is more like Memorial Day than Halloween. It is a day to celebrate the lives of our ancestors. This is a big celebration day in Mexico with a lot of food, music, color and fun. Children play with skeletons, eat pan de los muertos (bread of the dead) and make or buy sugar skulls. In class today, the boys of 7-1 began decorating their own Día de los Muertos skulls.

The beauty of folder papers on Halloween...
...is that even Elvis and Michael Jackson have to write them! The boys of 9-1 did not let the Halloween fun get in the way of finishing their folder papers and creating crossword puzzles using fruits and vegetables.

7-1 and 7-2 - Las frutas
The boys in 7-1 and 7-2 have been learning about fruits. We played a matching game. Read a book about a girl named Nandi who had a surprise for her friend in another village. At the end, Nandi received the biggest surprise! We listened to a fruit song. In the pictures below, the boys are working on their fruit papers. They practiced writing the fruit and colored the fruit. Some of the boys began playing a game with dice that have pictures of fruit on one and colors on the other. They have to roll both dice and say the fruit color combination in the right order. At this level, we are not worrying about masculine and feminine endings. Instead, we are getting used to putting the color AFTER the noun!
